The Jacob Jayasena trio embarks on a musical odyssey that traverses’ continents and cultures, exploring the intersection between Jazz and Classical music, history and mythology, and offers a glimpse into a world where boundaries blur and music transcends.
As our journey unfolds, we delve into jazz as well as the Indonesian musical tradition—a marriage of rhythms and melodies that stem from Jacob’s Indonesian roots. The trio will draw inspiration from the mythic tales of Hinduism, particularly the revered mythical bird Garuda, which serves as the throughout our performance. Birds have long been revered as symbols of freedom and beauty and have inspired numerous compositions in music history, from Ravel to Messiaen to Charlie Parker.
