Strands – Support by The Stooges – Thursday, 28th of July 2022:
Strands explore how four musicians can weave together, working towards a common musical narrative across jazz, and world music.
Expect dynamic improvised interplay, soulful melodies, and irrepressible grooves. The group features Alistair Johnson on saxophone, Cy Donkin on drums, Deven Rahman on trumpet, and Ben Phipps on bass with original compositions by Phipps. Strands debut album was recorded at Free Energy Device Studios in the first half of the year and will be released at the end of 2022. For this performance, the group will be joined by Ryu Kodama on drums.
The evening’s music will kick off with The Stooges. The Stooges is a music project run by bassist and vocalist Sarah Homeh. The aim is to perform as many weird and wonderful pieces from the modern jazz genre, Australian jazz scene, or just some odd trad jazz tunes that don’t get the recognition they deserve.
