Chasing the Moon – Friday, 24th September 2021:
“Like walking through a music festival in a European village” –
Simon Marnie, ABC Radio
Chasing the Moon presents a captivating evening of Gypsy Jazz, Musette and Swing infused with a dash of Latin flavour.
This engaging sextet brings the exuberant and romantic sounds of Hot Club Jazz to life, imbibing it with their own distinctive style which includes a number of original compositions.
Led by Kathy Bluff on violin and vocals and Paul Burjan on saxophone and flute, the band envelopes you in a rich, orchestral sound, combining soulful vocals and swinging violin with virtuosic saxophone and flute. That essential Parisian ambiance comes with the piano accordion, played by the engaging Garry Steel. Well-known Sydney jazz guitarist, John Blenkhorn provides rhythmic pulse and beautiful ‘Djangoesque’ solos. Jessica Dunn (Sirens Big Band) on double bass and Mike Quigley on drums lay down the best of grooves.
The music of Chasing the Moon counterpoints the darkly chromatic sounds of European jazz with the light-hearted flair of American swing and the irresistible charm of the Parisian café, creating an irrepressibly joyous ensemble.
Ooh là là, c’est magnifique!
