Brazilian Jazz with Maggie Gould, Nanny Assis & Kevin Field – Saturday, 18th of March 2023:
Welcome to an uplifting show of Brazilian Jazz with New Yorks’s top musicians. The LA times stated Maggie Gould was made for Bossa Nova, sold out shows internationally, she tells stories, and enchants her audiences. Maggie is a regular performer at Jazz Forum, Catalinas, and NY.
Maggie’s extensive portfolio includes performances with The Orpheus Choir and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, residencies in London, and Rome, Sharing her love for Brazilian music her album ToDo Amor was launched at the Blue Note. She has recently recorded with Claude McKnight (Take 6) and working on a new recording with John di Martino Russell Malone’s guitar, Nanny Assis, and her band.
Last week Maggie, Kevin, and Nanny did a concert with The Commodores Ronald La Pread to cheer everyone up after the cyclone and Flooding.
Nanny Assis ( Bahia), is a master of Bossa Nova, forro, and a myriad of African Brazilian sounds. Nanny has won best male vocalist and best show NYC also a Lifetime achievement in Brazilian Jazz 2018. Nanny’s energy will move the audience to dance, he has been collaborating with Maggie and produced also performed on ToDo Amor which is played/toured internationally. Nanny has performed in Turkey with a 64-piece orchestra, his music from Double Rainbow. He is presently recording his new CD with Maestro Ron Carter on Bass soon to be released. Nanny has toured with Paul Simon, and all the Brazilian masters, he loves performing In New Zealand, and this is his first performance in Australia.
Kevin Field, pianist, and composer is one of New Zealand’s most gifted musicians. He is a senior lecturer at Auckland University, he has arranged, produced, and recorded with all the greats. His original compositions on all his CDs are breathtaking.
His CD won best jazz album at the NZ music awards 2015,
Music from Jobim, Djvanne, Bernstein, American songbook, Chet Baker, Stevie, and original work will be performed. The music will uplift, soothe, and relax then get you to your feet Brazilian style.
