Glenn Doig Sextet – Wednesday, 12th of July 2023:
This will be the debut performance of the new ensemble, the Glenn Doig Sextet, featuring long-time collaborators Simon Ferenci, James Loughnan, and Paul Derricott with the addition of new voices in Max Alduca and Tess Overmyer. The group will perform new compositions from Glenn, alongside some older favourites.
Glenn has been active on the Sydney jazz scene with his trio, Doig Collective and Doig Big Band since 2007. Doig Trio first debuted at Jazzgroove in 2009, and since then Doig Collective and Doig Big Band have been regulars at Foundry 616 and Venue 505. In 2011, Doig Collective was recorded by ABC Jazz for Mal Stanley’s “Thursday Night Live”. In 2016 the Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival commissioned Glenn to write 2 pieces for the debut performance of Pharos. In recent years performances by the Doig Collective have reflected Glenn’s study and arrangement of the compositions of his mentors including Dale Barlow, Dave Panichi, Mike Nock, Sean Wayland and Matt McMahon.
