Goldfynch is the art-focused contemporary fusion collaboration of multi-award-winning Guitarist/Composer Gavin Libotte (of Urban Gypsies fame) with Singer/Poet/Writer Niyati Libotte. Blending their mutual love for an eclectic taste in music, art, and film, the result is a haunting merger of tone, emotion, and energy that takes you on many journeys- by turns cinematic, poetic, and aspirational, above all human. It’s storytelling in song, catharsis in sound.
A true melting pot of musical traditions that draw on influences from Eva Cassidy to Air, Madeleine Peyroux to A.R. Raiman, the Beatles to Radiohead and Coldplay, the music mixes genres and each song is unique, blending jazz, acoustic pop, soft rock, classical and folk, with Indian, Latin, and French influences.
For this one-time-only premiere album launch, Goldfynch will showcase the stellar talents of the full 9-piece band, with Aria-winning bassist Jonathan Zwartz, National Jazz Awards finalist Thomas Avgenicos on trumpet, award-winning violinist Ben Adler and cellist/guitarist Damian De Boos Smith, drums from Jared Underwood (replacing James Hauptmann), Percussion and piano from Byron Mark (replacing Bill Risby) and the soulful bansuri flute playing of Venkhatesh Sritharan.
Much like the symbol of the songbird itself, Goldfynch presents an overarching message of hope and positivity through challenge and change, a much-needed musical balm for these trying times. The debut album was recorded at Soundplanet Studios, produced by Emmy Award winner Sean Carey, and mastered by two-time Grammy Award winner Helik Hadar. It has won international acclaim and featured nationally across ABC’s The Music Show, Sydney Morning Herald, the Australian, Rhythms Magazine, India Downunder, Australian Spectrum Show, and Eastside Radio.
