Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra – Thursday, 6th of October 2022:
Sydney Conservatorium’s premier Jazz Orchestra returns to the Foundry on October 6th! The flagship 18-piece ensemble boasts some of Sydney’s finest young musicians – so expect 2 sets of exciting, dynamic, expressive, and diverse big band music.
Directed by award-winning trumpeter and composer Ellen Kirkwood, the ensemble will cover a repertoire from a host of acclaimed jazz composers including Maria Schneider, Bill Motzing, Thad Jones, Sally Greenaway, Florian Ross, and Conservatorium student Damon Poppleton. The band will also present some of Kirkwood’s own compositions and arrangements, described by Loudmouth magazine as “alternately wondrous, lithe, reflective and manically driven…[with] moments of remarkable and stark beauty.”
