The catholics – Friday, 6th of October 2023:
One of Australia’s most beloved, long-running worldbeat/jazz ensembles is 100% guaranteed to put a smile on your face and get your body grooving.
In this show, The catholics are delighted to welcome back “regular” percussionist Fabian Hevia – who now lives interstate – for an all-too-rare appearance.
We’re also delighted to announce Nic Cecire – a frequent presence with us on the drums – will be back with us on the night, laying down his effortless, elegant groove. Fabian and Nic lock together like the movement of a Swiss watch.
Then there’s Sandy Evans on saxophones, Gary Daley (piano accordion, melodica), James Greening (trombone and trumpet), “new boy” Julian Curwin on guitar and banjo, and leader Lloyd Swanton on the bass.
The catholics will be infusing their jazz with an intoxicating blend of worldbeat grooves – Caribbean, Brazilian, African, southern funk, and not a little of that hard-to-pin-down catholicity.
No more joyous way to welcome in Spring!
