Mike Nock Quartet – Friday, 1st of September 2023:
Together with Mike Nock, tenor saxophonist Karl Laskowski, bassist Brett Hirst and drummer James ‘Pug’ Waples opened Foundry616 back in August of 2013. It was an exciting night, with the addition of a brand new music venue in Sydney and a superb group of musicians honoured with the first ever performance there.
In a city where music venues often open and close almost overnight, Foundry’s ten year’s of operation is no mean feat and a credit to the many fine musicians who have played there. Mike Nock could well have played more shows at Foundry than any other artist, appearing with both his own celebrated groups and alongside a host of outstanding soloists.
Ever since that historic first date at Foundry, Mike’s quartet have continued to delight audiences with their uncompromising musicianship and obvious joy in performing together. It’s always a treat when this particular lineup is available to play together, enabling audiences to experience the unique chemistry of this wonderful quartet in person.
As Foundry embarks on a month of official celebrations in September for its tenth anniversary, it’s totally fitting that the first show of that season features the Mike Nock Quartet.
