The Jacob Jayasena trio returns to Foundry616, embarking on a musical odyssey that traverses continents and cultures, exploring the intersection between Jazz and Classical music, history and mythology, offering a glimpse into a world where boundaries blur and music transcends.

Originally from Solo, Indonesia, Jacob made a name for himself in his home country, including a notable performance at the International Ubud Village Jazz Festival in 2019, before relocating to Sydney in 2020. Under the guidance of esteemed jazz pianists such as Indra Lesmana, Judy Bailey, Kevin Hunt, and Steve Barry, Jacob honed his skills and developed a unique and authentic style. Jacob now studies at the esteemed Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This time, Jacob is joined by two esteemed musicians – Tim Firth on drums and Jacob Graham on bass. Together the trio will deliver a diverse set featuring original compositions, classic jazz standards, and tunes by great Australian composers, taking inspiration from the music of Charlie Parker, Barry Harris, Bach, and Ravel, as well as Jacob’s Indonesian roots.

This performance will also be one of the last chances to see the amazing Keala Burns perform live! Keala will be relocating to Boston in August to study voice at the Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship.

Keala was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, and has formal classical training in double bass, piano, composition, and voice, influenced by the voices of Sarah Vaughan, Cecile McLoring Salvant, and the operatic soprano Sabine Devieilhe.

Don’t miss this opportunity to Join us at Foundry616 for an evening filled with exceptional music!
