The Jacob Jayasena trio returns to Foundry616, embarking on a musical odyssey that traverses continents and cultures. It explores the intersection between Jazz and classical music, history and mythology, and offers a glimpse into a world where boundaries blur and music transcends.
Jacob is joined by rising talents Matt Ling (bass) and Matt Simmonds (drums) for a performance that honors jazz traditions while exploring what it means to be an Australian jazz musician today. Expect a dynamic blend of classic influences (Parker, Davis, Monk) and forward-thinking innovation.
Originally from Solo, Indonesia, Jacob made a name for himself in his home country, including a notable performance at the International Ubud Village Jazz Festival in 2019, before relocating to Sydney in 2020. Under the guidance of esteemed jazz pianists such as Indra Lesmana, Judy Bailey, Kevin Hunt, and Steve Barry, Jacob honed his skills and developed a unique and authentic style. Jacob now studies at the esteemed Sydney Conservatorium of Music on scholarship.
