The trio will present a captivating program including original compositions by Hugh Barrett, works by jazz legends Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton, and Barry Harris, as well as fresh arrangements of classic jazz standards.
Hugh Barrett has been a prominent figure on the Australian jazz scene for nearly two decades. He has performed with internationally acclaimed artists such as Chris Potter, Maria Schneider, Ted Nash, Marcus Printup, Alex Sipiagin, Bob Sheppard, Charles Tolliver, Florian Ross, Arthur Lipner, and Bert Joris. Hugh was a featured performer in the inaugural Australian National Jazz Orchestra recordings in 2017 and 2019.
A Freedman Jazz Fellowship nominee (2018) and two-time semi-finalist in the Australian National Jazz Awards (2006 and 2013), Hugh regularly collaborates with both established jazz icons and emerging talents. He has performed at many of Australia’s leading jazz festivals and served on faculty at the Australian National University School of Music from 2018 to 2022.
