W.E.S.T.

Felicity Wilcox-Piano; John Encarnacao-Guitar; Lloyd Swanton-Double Bass

Wilcox, Encarnacao, Swanton Trio (W.E.S.T) is an exciting collaboration between three unique composer-performers, who are all individually renowned for their work in jazz, improvisation, indie pop, art music and movie soundtracks. Come and join us to experience music that that is exploratory, arresting, mesmerising, and unpredictable!

Felicity Wilcox is a singer, pianist, songwriter and composer, having created over 60 soundtracks for film and television under the alias Felicity Fox. She has received commissions from Australia’s leading festivals and ensembles, including Sydney Festival, Vivid Sydney, The Australia Ensemble, Ensemble Offspring, and Song Company.

John Encarnacao is a guitarist, singer, songwriter and improviser. Recent projects include the aleatoric theatre soundtrack Tinderbox, albums by rock group The Nature Strip, and collaborations with Holly Harrison and Jon Drummond.

Lloyd Swanton is regarded as one of the world’s leading improvisers, as bassist for Australian cult band, The Necks, and is also leader of the legendary jazz/worldbeat group, The catholics.

Tabua-Harrison

Tabua-Harrison is an experimental duo of electric guitar and drum kit. Entirely improvised, the duo revels in the spontaneous, pairing the visceral energy of rock, funk, and metal, with the intricacy of contemporary art music. Previous collaborators include guzheng player, Chiu Tan Ching, of Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, and taegum virtuoso, Hyelim Kim. Their debut record, Scout, was released by Psychopyjama last year.

Guitarist Joey Tabua brings a background in hard rock and funk to the duo – his 2000s band Junto toured with the likes of COG and The Mark of Cain. As a composer, he pursues fusions of his rock history and Fijian heritage with minimalism and aleatoric music, as heard on his recent solo album Half Ocean Half Sky. Drummer Holly Harrison is one of Australia’s foremost young composers. Her work has been commissioned and performed by ensembles across Australia, the US, Europe, and Asia, including the four-time Grammy award-winning Eighth Blackbird.
