Jacob Jayasena Trio – Thursday, 28th of March 2024:
Returning to Foundry616: Jacob Jayasena Trio!
Originally from Solo, Indonesia, Jacob made a name for himself in his home country, including a notable performance at the International Ubud Village Jazz Festival in 2019, before relocating to Sydney in 2020. Under the guidance of esteemed jazz pianists like Indra Lesmana, Judy Bailey, Kevin Hunt, and Steve Barry, Jacob honed his skills and developed a style that’s both unique and authentic. Jacob now studies at the esteemed Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Jacob is joined by two legends of Australian Jazz;
Andrew Dickeson is one of Australia’s leading jazz drummers. His playing is informed by the history and tradition of the jazz movement; his respect and love for this history is immediately apparent, and his knowledge of it is second to none.
Craig Scott has been one of Australia’s leading bassists for over 40 years. Throughout his career, Craig has been a member of many other groups led by such well-known jazz identities as Joe Henderson, Don Burrows, James Morrison, Julian Lee, Kerrie Biddell, Gregg Arthur, Paul MacNamara, Judy Bailey, Roger Frampton, and many others.
Keala was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, and has formal classical training in double bass, piano, composition, and voice. She is currently studying Jazz Voice at the Sydney Conservatorium and has been awarded a full scholarship to study voice at Berklee College of Music in Boston starting August 2024.
Together, the Jacob Jayasena Trio will deliver a diverse set, featuring original compositions, classic jazz standards, and tunes by great Australian composers.
