Lee Jones Quartet – Wednesday, 27th of September, 2023:
Lee Jones is a British jazz guitarist and composer, combining influences from modern jazz, fusion, blues, avant-garde, and rock styles. Lee has regularly performed throughout the UK scene and recorded/performed/studied alongside Larry Coryell, Martin Taylor, and Mike Stern. Since graduating from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Jazz Course in 2007, he has released seven solo albums with former WEA producer Simon Tittley. In 2019, he completed a Ph.D. in music composition at the University of Salford, Manchester. Lee is currently touring Australia and also active within music education/research. Lee has a second eBook and new solo album, A World Away, scheduled for release in late 2023.
Tonight, Lee will be bringing together a very special quartet in honour of two of the leading giants of jazz guitar – Wes Montgomery and Barney Kessel. Following several recent shows with the group ‘Way Out Wes’ in the UK which Lee co-fronts with US actor Tom Clarke-Hill, this brand-new lineup has been specially formed to commemorate the 100th centenary of Barney Kessel in October 2023 and will be performing a range of diverse repertoire from classic albums including Boss Guitar, Smokin’ at the Halfnote and Jellybeans with a soulful, blues-inflected passion.
