‘Duets’ – a celebration.Anita Wardell & Trish Delaney-Brown present the music of Carmen McRae and Betty Carter:
A Rare and exquisite Jazz Collaboration! Australia’s Trish Delaney-Brown and UK’s Anita Wardell (now based in Adelaide) come together at Sydney’s Foundry 616 Jazz Club on friday, Sept 27th 2019 to celebrate the Carmen McRae and Betty Carter album ‘Duets’ – originally performed and recorded live at the Great American Music Hall, San Francisco in 1987.
Ably supported by jazz luminaries Greg Coffin (keys), Karl Dunnicliff (bass) and Nic Cecire (drums), Anita “one of the most innovative performers on the scene” (Piers Ford) and Trish “..a wordly woman-voice, one of happy and sad and all the gospel colours in between” (John Hardaker) revel in the rich material from the album including ‘What’s New’ , ‘ Stolen Moments’ , ‘It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got That Swing’, ‘Am I Blue’ and other treasures. It’s not often that an opportunity arises to share the stage with another jazz singer. Trish and Anita are excited to present this project, giving listeners an insight into the camaraderie, playfulness and pure joy this musical meeting of Betty Carter and Carmen McRae brought that evening back in 1987.
