Jazz & Cocktails with Gregg Arthur – Friday, 24th of June 2022:
Gregg Arthur returns to Foundry616 in June with a performance of timeless jazz standards as smooth as a great martini – featuring tunes from his new album out now on ABC Jazz. Jazz & Cocktails is a celebration of classic late-night saloon bar songs, of smoky rooms, tuxedos, and bow-ties casually undone at the end of the evening. Gregg is joined on stage by 3 of Australia’s most revered musicians, including Peter Locke, Andrew Dickeson, Jacob Graham, and special guest Craig Walters.
Arthur follows in the footsteps of Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, and Tony Bennett as one of the great interpreters, and on this new album, he performs songs written by legendary artists including Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Cole Porter, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Michel Legrand.
Gregg Arthur has been called “the finest male jazz singer Australia has produced since Vince Jones” and over the course of a long career in Australia and America has honed his talents and worked with iconic musicians including Australia’s own Maestro Tommy Tycho, Tom Ranier (pianist for Tony Bennett), Bob Rosario (Pianist and arranger for Bobby Darin) Vincent Falcone (pianist and conductor for Frank Sinatra), and the “Brush Master” Clayton Cameron (drummer for Tony Bennett and Sammy Davis Jr)
“Jazz is not only about commercial imperatives; it’s also about artistry and musical excellence. I’m fussy when it comes to vocalists, and very hard to please. I feel that this country has only a handful of great jazz singers. This quintessential jazz club experience confirmed for me that Gregg Arthur is one of them.” – Eric Myers, The Weekend Australian
“Some people got it, and some people don’t. Gregg Arthur is one of the ones who does. It’s the devilish art of being a jazz singer” – John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald
“Unmatched as a singer and performer” – Clayton Cameron (Drummer with Sammy Davis Jnr, Tony Bennett, George Shearing, Joe Pass, Joe Williams)
