Kevin Hunt Trio – Wednesday, 23rd of March 2022:
The Kevin Hunt trio explores the music of various jazz traditions and cultures. The trio music features the finest rhythm section with Karl Dunncliff (bass) and Dave Goodman (drums).
Kevin created this trio during an intense period of piano tone colour exploration, which was inspired by the creation of the Australian-made Stuart & Sons Piano.
The connection with the Stuart & Sons Piano continues, as we’re hoping to perform in Melbourne using the 108 key Stuart piano at Beleura House. The broad musical style of this group enables Kevin to continue his jazz tradition and to find new areas of music performance.
At times the trio music delves into riff making and jamming in the likeness of Jo Zawinul & Duke Ellington, with harmonic explorations, influenced by Maurice Ravel. The conduit of it all, being how this group of three musically speak to one another.
“Each of the seemingly disparate musical entities of Ravel, Ellington, American jazz standards, bebop, and music of Australian Indigenous culture seems to have evolved naturally for me through playing and experimenting with the Stuart & Sons piano. And the art itself – so many aspects intrigue me about the performance of jazz piano style. The scope of repertoire is huge, and the potential of presenting in various ways is wide open in a jazz performance.”
