Nanny Assis, Matt McMahon & Maggie Gould + Special guests – Thursday, 22nd of February, 2024:

Maggie Gould, an international performer, has shared the stage with acclaimed artists such as Bruce Foreman, Russell Malone, Nanny Assis, and more. Notably, she recorded a new album with guitarist Russell Malone, and Nanny and Maggie performed in a funk soul concert along with Commodores’ Ronald La Praed.

During her London residency, Dionne Warwick commended her vocal phrasing and storytelling, advising her not to change a thing. She has graced venues like Blue Note, Jazz Forum, and Zinc NYC, performing at numerous festivals and touring with Brazilian artist Nanny Assis.

Nanny recognized Maggie’s voice as a perfect fit for Brazilian jazz, leading to the production of her well-received album “ToDo Amor,” featuring music from Brazilian composers like Djvanne, Edu Lobo, and Jobim. Maggie and Nanny also operate an events company, organizing festivals and conducting jazz and Brazilian jazz workshops.

Maggie’s upcoming album is recorded in collaboration with Grammy-winning bassist Victor Wooten and guitarist Russell Malone, with production by Nanny Assis.

Sydney-based pianist and composer Matt McMahon boasts a rich musical career. Notable achievements include winning the National Jazz Award (Wangaratta 1999) and the Freedman Jazz Fellowship (2005). He’s contributed to ARIA and Bell award-winning albums and has an extensive discography with over ninety appearances, including three as a leader.

His debut album, “Paths and Streams” (2006), and the Matt McMahon Trio’s “Ellipsis” (2007) received critical acclaim. In 2015, he released the solo piano album “The Voyage of Mary and William.” Matt co-leads the Band of Five Names and is frequently commissioned for new compositions that appear in film, television, and various albums.

Matt has collaborated with distinguished Australian jazz musicians and performed with international artists like Wynton Marsalis and Joe Lovano on their Australian tours. Notably, he has been Vince Jones’ pianist/musical director since 2000, engaging in extensive performing, touring, co-writing, and recording.

Beyond jazz, Matt has explored diverse musical styles, collaborating with artists such as Katie Noonan, Gurrumul, and Christina Leonard. His versatility extends to working with Flamenco (Bandaluzzia), Korean Pansori (Daorum), Viola da Gamba (Jenny Erikkson), and more.

Nanny Assis, hailing from Bahia, Brazil, is a highly skilled artist proficient in bossa nova, forro, and various African Brazilian music genres. In 2017, Nanny received the Best Male Vocalist award at the Brazilian Press Music Awards and earned a nomination for Best Show in New York, showcasing his talent as an instrumentalist. Nanny’s latest album, “Rovanio,” is a true masterpiece, featuring collaborations with Ron Carter on bass and the St. Petersburg Orchestra.

Recently honored with a lifetime achievement award in Brazilian Jazz, Nanny Assis has showcased his extraordinary abilities on international tours and collaborated with renowned artists such as Paul Simon, Kenny Baron, Vinicius Cantauria, and John Patitucci.
