STEVE CLISBY BAND MIRACLE 8 SESSIONS:
“In a sea of dance-oriented 21st-century music, Miracle 8 stands out as a breath of fresh air. With inventive and creative arrangements and a clever meld of real instruments (including Dale Barlow on sax) and voices with electronic sounds, Australian songwriter Steve Clisby, has produced a fine album of intriguing appeal.
This is almost a universal kind of music and hard to categorise. By Universal, I mean that it combines many different styles, including the brilliant and very tasteful combination of cool jazz solos intertwined with a modern dance beat, although dance is, I suspect, not it’s the primary purpose. It also strikes me as fabulous mood music for entertaining. Cocktails at 5.30, dinner and late-night romance. But there is a story to be told here. I’m still sorting through the lyrics as sung on those tracks that have lyrics, plus the song titles themselves, the styles and arrangements, and the artwork. Capped off by a slightly recurring theme of flamenco guitar accompanied by a thunderstorm, the possibilities are interesting and endless. Music has the power to evoke different images and mean different things to different people. There is nothing worse than someone telling you what you should be hearing or feeling. You can decide for yourself. I think you will be delighted with this release. Go listen.”
