David Humphreys’ Sydney Jazz Collective featuring Ingrid James:
Bebop to Brazil reunites award-winning vocalist Ingrid James with bandleader David Humphreys for a night of sophisticated jazz music. Ingrid is also a voice educator, lyricist and recording artist “whose note-perfect delivery and depth of lyrical expression has elevated her into the elite of Australia’s musical talents” (Steve Robertson, Portland Observer). Nick Mancini, a US vibraphonist/composer, described her vocal tone as “total ear candy; warm, round and focussed. Her music is deep and informed by a great many influences”. Described by John Hardaker as having “found the right point between the hip and the sweet”, Ingrid will present big band vocal charts from her two recent albums recorded in the US with Eric Marienthal and Bill Watrous. David Humphreys has performed in jazz festivals in Canada, Singapore, the UK, Indonesia, Australia, and Japan with many jazz stars, including Maynard Ferguson, Wynton Marsalis, Ernie Watts, Manhattan Transfer, and Bobby Shew. He established Brisbane Contemporary Jazz Orchestra with Ingrid as the featured vocalist in 2005. David’s new band, David Humphreys’ Sydney Jazz Collective, performs contemporary big band music and, for one night only at Foundry 616, welcomes Ingrid James as guest vocalist.
