The catholics:
Lloyd Swanton’s exuberant and much-loved worldbeat/jazz ensemble The catholics are something of an institution at the Foundry, and now they’re back to lift your spirits in the midst of COVID, with the second of two September shows.
Over nearly three decades together The catholics have had some very special guests, and this time we’re proud to welcome the amazing Jeremy Rose on saxophone and bass clarinet – playing his debut shows with the band – and also to welcome back the wonderful Jess Ciampa on percussion.
Leader Swanton is on bass, and Jeremy Rose (saxophones, bass clarinet), James Greening (trombone, pocket trumpet), Jess Ciampa (percussion), Gary Daley (piano accordion, melodica), Jon Pease (guitar), and Hamish Stuart (drums) round out this incredible ensemble.
The catholics, now in their 29th year, play toe-tapping music that rewards equally the head and the heart.
Every show is an exuberant display of wit, humanity, and breathtaking musicianship. Just the thing for these times.
