Wendy Matthews with special guest Karen Lee Andrews:
Wendy Matthews 9.15pm
One of Australia’s most talented singer songwriters WENDY MATTHEWS has recorded a live album (Billie and Me) with long time collaborators Brendan St Ledger on piano and Greg Royal on standup bass – inspired by the music and soul of the late Billie Holiday.
Since the albums’ release this group of four including Mick King (guitar) have been touring the Billie & Me show across Australia to sell out venues.
Fans can expect an intimate show with an introspective translation of some classic and not so classic Billie Holiday masterpieces, including ‘God Bless the Child’, ‘Good Morning Heartache’, ‘The Man I Love’ and ‘You’re My Thrill’. An iconic woman who is still considered to be one of the greatest jazz voices of all time.
Additionally, Wendy and her band perform a handful of reworked popular songs from Wendy’s highly successful career, fitting into a similar vein, including ‘The Day You Went Away’, ‘Woman’s Got To Have It’ ‘Token Angels’ and ‘I Don’t Want to be With Nobody But You’.
A show not to be missed!
Karen Lee Andrews (Support) 8.00 pm
Karen Lee Andrews has reconnected with her guitar, hitting new strides and a new style, which can only be described as Oceanic Blues. And now this commanding Polynesian woman of soul is back with her own original music and new EP.
Her sound is an exceptional blend of American Blues and Soul. The roots of the sound are gritty guitar, glowing valves, lush tremolo and deep reverb in a distinctively fluid Oceanic expression.
“Andrews is on an inspiring and passionate musical journey. A must see.” Beat Magazine
“Commanding and brilliant.” Daily Telegraph
“Soulful and bluesy, with so much heart and pain, delivered with so much class.” Sound of Oz
