Chasing the Moon – Saturday, 3rd of April 2021:
Chasing the Moon presents a captivating evening of Gypsy Swing, Chanson and Musette, infused with a dash of Latin flavour. This engaging sextet brings to life the exuberant and romantic sounds of Hot Club Jazz, imbibing it with their own distinctive style that includes a number of original compositions.
Led by Kathy Bluff on violin and vocals and Paul Burjan on saxophone and flute, the band envelopes you in a rich, orchestral sound, combining soulful vocals, strings, and wind. That essential Parisian ambiance comes with the piano accordion of Garry Steel. Well-known Sydney jazz guitarist, John Blenkhorn provides rhythmic pulse and beautiful ‘Djangoesque’ solos.
Jessica Dunn (Sirens Big Band) on double bass and Mike Quigley on drums, complete the rhythm section, laying down the best of grooves.
The music of Chasing the Moon counterpoints the darkly chromatic sounds of European Jazz with the light-hearted flair of American swing and the ambiance of a Paris Jazz Café.
Ooh là là, c’est magnifique!
