“We Like Ike” CD Launch 100th Birthday Tribute to Guitar Legend Ike Isaacs:
Carl Dewhurst & Dave Smith (guitars), Sandie White (vocal), Mark Isaacs (piano) & Brendan Clarke (bass)
Legendary international jazz guitarist Ike Isaacs toured with Stephane Grappelli, the highlight of a stellar career. He had respect and friendship from guitar greats like Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, and George Benson, whilst being fondly remembered still by the countless guitarists across all walks of life whom he generously mentored and inspired.
For the 100th anniversary of his birth on December 1, 1919, artists around the world contributed tracks to this most warming tribute CD produced by composer Roger Frankham, including guitar phenomenon Martin Taylor (who cites Ike as his main mentor), distinguished Australian guitarists James Sherlock and Carl Orr as well Ike’s renowned nephew, pianist Mark Isaacs. This performance also features guitarist Carl Dewhurst, who won both the judges’ and the people’s choice awards at the Ike Isaacs International Jazz Guitar Competition.
Ike was born in Rangoon, Burma, and was based in London during the heyday of his career. He spent his last years in Sydney where he was warmly received into the Australian jazz fold and a TV documentary about his life in music was made for SBS. This launch also celebrates the re-release of Ike’s own solo guitar album, his beautiful Intimate Interpretations, recorded during those last years here, produced by Mark Isaacs.
