After an extensive time performing in New York, Sydney-based pianist Joel Jenkins is returning to Foundry616 once again with his trio.
Featuring Rob Hamilton on bass & Tully Ryan on drums, the trio has been described as having ‘A Beautiful balance between complication and simplicity’
Inspired by the likes of Brad Mehldau, Robert Glasper, and The Cars, this modern piano trio will be delivering a solid does of jazz, infused with hip hop, and coated with a generous amount of vibe.
This band is definitely not one to miss.
Musical diversity and boundary-pushing creativity turned the Sydney-based singer, songwriter, producer and performer into an in-demand musical collaborator with artists and writers in the US and the UK, as well as his homeland of Australia. Having worked with Gang of Youths, on their last 3 projects, seeing them lead the charge with 8 nominations at the Australian Aria Awards, and 4 wins on the night, including Album of the Year.
As well as multiple upcoming songs with bands and artists in the US and UK, David has been hard at work in the local scene producing Sydney singer-songwriter Sayah’s latest offering, “Bad Drug”, and upcoming single “He’s Not Over Me”. “We both wanted to push for a sound that was different from everything else being released in Sydney.”
David also landed a major sync with the Warner Bros. film, “Justice League”, on the movie’s trailer. The video has been viewed 31 Million times and features the cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes” recorded by David and Gang of Youths frontman, David Le’aupepe.
In the end, David will always want to keep moving forward, keep striving for new sounds and new sonic territory. His live performances and recent recordings are proof of this.
“I feel at home in the unfamiliar, constantly trying to go somewhere that I haven’t been before, to go where the music is about to go.”
