Join us for an exciting evening of music as saxophonist and composer Graeme Norris returns to Sydney after an absence of almost 20 years for a quartet performance at Foundry 616.
Norris has been living in New York City for eight years and in that time he has fronted his own bands and appeared as a sidemen in a number of New York venues including Dizzy’s, SoB’s, Mezzrow and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem as well as major festivals.
Following a Masters in Jazz Performance at Manhattan School of Music (2014) where he is now on the Faculty of the Pre-College department, Graeme was a featured soloist on “Que Viva Harlem”, the 2014 Grammy nominated recording by the Manhattan School of Music Afro-Cuban Orchestra under the direction of Bobby Sanabria.
Prior to relocating to New York, Graeme was on faculty at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and The Jazz Music Institute in Brisbane. He had an extensive career in Australia leading his own bands featuring Alan Turnbull, Nicki Parrott and Jann Rutherford, and also recording and touring with James Morrison, Tom Burlinson, Emma Pask and Monica Trapaga.
Tonight’s performance is a much anticipated return and will feature original material as well as compositions by Sonny Rollins, Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk and Kenny Dorham.
