15 May Tues – Jodie Michael Farewell Performance – FREE ENTRY!
Tuesday 1 May, 8.00pm
FREE ENTRY tonight!
Join us for a special night before drummer extraordinaire Jodie Michael heads off to the USA to study a masters at either Queens College in NY or Berklee in Boston. She will perform her final trio gig at Foundry616 following her popular bi-monthly residency at Foundry616 with another night of brilliance featuring saxophonist Peter Farrar and Jacques Emery on bass. This is your last chance to experience the music of this talented musician and bandleader, so don’t miss out.
Back in 2013, Jodie Michael won the Jann Rutherford Memorial in 2013 which gave her the opportunity to lead her trio in their first performances at Foundry 616. Since then, the band has continued to make a name for itself.
Jodie Michael was hailed as a major talent almost a decade ago, with a fearsome energy, great technique and attitude in spades. Inspired by drummers such as Tony Williams (Miles Davis) and Elvin Jones (John Coltrane), she plays with passion and total commitment. Jodie has also led her group, Broken Time, at Foundry616.
For this trio performance, the musicians will explore the sonic possibilities offered when a dominant harmonic instrument is left out. Their repertoire is drawn from a bop and avant-garde vocabulary born from the jazz music idiom, interpreted, as always, through a personal and collectively idiosyncratic lens.
Jodie Michael (drums)
Peter Farrar (saxophone)
Jacques Emery (bass)
