Foundry616 is thrilled to present the only Sydney performance of bassist/leader/composer: Linda May Han Oh. Linda, who was born in western Australia has scaled the heights of the US jazz scene to perform not only with major names such as Pat Metheny (she’s currently his first choice bass player), Joe Lovano, Dave Douglas, Terri Lyne Carrington and Kenny Barron but also generation next stars such as Vijay Iyer, saxophonist Greg Ward, drummer Ches Smith and pianist Matt Mitchell.
Since she first emerged on the New York scene in the mid 2000s her star has been rising. She
won the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer’s Award in 2008, won the 2010 Bell Award for Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year. In the same year she nominated for the Jazz Journalist’s Awards for Up and Coming Artist of the Year and received also the was placed first in the Downbeat Critic’s Poll for Acoustic Bass Rising Star.
Her most recent album “Walk Against the Wind” (2017 Biophilia Records) received critical acclaim and was featured on the 2017 NPR Music Jazz Critics’ Poll.
Linda is in Australia to Perform her latest project Aventurine featuring an 8 piece group made up of Linda, pianist Fabian Almazon and 6 Australians at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
With Linda, for what will be surely a memorable gig is the wonderful pianist Fabian Almazon and drummer Tim Firth.
