Eleanora Fagan (7th April 1915 – 17th July 1959), professionally known as Billie Holiday, was an American jazz musician and singer-songwriter with a career spanning nearly thirty years. Nicknamed “Lady Day” by her friend and music partner saxophonist Lester Young, Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz music and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo.
The Rodric White Quintet & special guest Tiana Young will pay homage to Lady Day with songs ‘God Bless The Child’, ‘Fine & Mellow’, ‘Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans’, ‘No Detour Ahead’ and ‘Lover Come Back To Me’.BILL EVANS
William John “Bill” Evans (16th August 1929 – 15th September 1980) was an American jazz pianist and composer who mostly worked in a trio setting. Evans’ use of impressionist harmony, inventive interpretation of traditional jazz repertoire, block chord, and trademark rhythmically independent, “singing” melodic lines continue to influence jazz pianists today.
The Rodric White Quintet & special guest Tiana Young will celebrate the music of Bill Evans with performances of ‘Nardis’, ‘Come Rain or Come Shine’, ‘Stella By Starlight’, ‘Dolphin Dance’, ‘Waltz For Debby’ and ‘Time Remembered’.
