03 May Thursday – Bella Groove (Canberra)
$17.00 – $69.00
Thursday 3 May, 2018, 8.30pm
Canberra’s BELLA GROOVE return to Foundry616 for their first Sydney show in 2018, as award winning jazz vocalist, flautist and composer, Elise Walsh performs with some of Sydney’s finest jazz musicians.
Elise received a Music Award from the Canberra Critics’ Circle for her leadership as a vocalist, flautist and songwriter of the jazz band Bella Groove. Elise’s debut jazz album “City Lights” is an eclectic mix of originals and jazz standards.
Standards range from upbeat swing to a beautiful ballad by John Coltrane whilst Elise’s flute playing is showcased on Serenade to a Cuckoo by Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Originals include the classic swinging Should We through to the funky grooves of City Of Yes.
Elise has been a performer since the age of 10, starting out at Young People’s Theatre Newcastle. Classically trained on the flute from the age of eleven in Newcastle, Elise started learning jazz flute and vocals with the Sydney Jazz Action Society and the Sydney Conservatorium in her 20s. Her love for jazz stems from early beginnings. Her grandfather was a jazz band leader in the UK in the 30s and 40s. Elise’s mum played jazz piano and her Aunty played double bass. Music was always part of the Walsh household.
As a regular performer in her home base, Canberra, Elise always brings “good cheer” to all performances so that her “wide jazz family are having a good time” (Eric Pozza, Canberra Jazz).
