Michael Griffin

Recently named Artist in Residence with Fine Music 102.5FM, a package of $10,000 value, Michael Griffin, one of Australia’s finest saxophonists, is back at Foundry616.

Over the last 18 months Griffin has presented a number of sophisticated and exciting projects at the club from the music Charlie Parker recorded with strings, Monks large ensemble arrangements, to his working with outstanding vocalists such as Kate Wadey and Liam Burrows to his project exploring the music of Duke Ellington, Griffin always leads bands which feature the best young musicians on the local scene.

This time around Griffin’s band will perform a range of material from classic standards and ballads to Griffin’s well structured originals as featured on his ABC album ‘Unexpected Greeting’ Some new recent material will feature too. Apart from the leader’s own playing, check out such outstanding talents as pianist Aaron Blakey, James Power on trumpet and the excellent bass/drum combination of Tim Geldens and Jacob Graham.
