Frances Madden

Frances Madden

She’s been described by Fine Music 102.5 FM as ‘Australia’s rising star of jazz and blues’ and Foundry616 is delighted to welcome back Frances Madden, one of Australia’s classiest and most talented young performers. Recently back from a song writing trip to Nashville with a suitcase full of new original tunes, Frances will be performing her latest show ‘Practical Magic’ together with her all-star band on Friday 2 November.

“Frances has a wonderful feeling for jazz and blues standards but what makes her a real stand-out are her original songs and her unique style.” – James Morrison.

Frances captivates her audiences with a combination of her genuinely warm stage presence along with a voice and style that are uniquely her own. Her music is jazz-influenced but with a broad adult contemporary appeal. Frances is a gifted original songwriter and when she performs her own swinging tunes, earthy blues or beautiful ballads they stand shoulder to shoulder with the timeless classics she covers.

In the past year, Frances completed a successful eight-show East Coast tour as well as performing at major festivals around the country including Wangaratta and Manly Jazz Festivals. She also supported the legendary Dionne Warwick and Grammy Award winner Gregory Porter here in Australia.

Frances has played to capacity audiences at all of Australia’s popular jazz venues including Birds Basement and the Paris Cat in Melbourne, Doo-Bop Jazz Club in Brisbane, The Basement and Foundry616 in Sydney and she recently headlined at the JZ Club in Shanghai. Her first album went to #5 on the ARIA Jazz Charts and she is part way through recording her second album with acclaimed Melbourne producer and musical director Chong Lim AM (John Farnham, Sarah McKenzie, Sydney Olympics 2000).

Along with Frances on vocals and piano, the band for the show features some of Australia’s most talented musicians.

Carl Dewhurst – Guitars
Brett Hirst – Double Bass
Tim Geldens – Drums
Ray Cassar – Trumpet & Flugelhorn
Karl Laskowski – Saxophone
