Due to Massive Public Demand, Tokyo Groove Jyoshi (TGJ) is back for a second show!
The all-female groove/funk band is returning for their second “Grooving Down Under” tour after a highly successful “Tokyo Down Under” tour in April 2024, where both their shows at the Foundry were sold out! Four of their seven shows in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney were sellouts.
About TGJ: Formed in 2018 in Tokyo by producer Koichi Kaneko (Neko), TGJ consists of talented Japanese session musicians:
- Emi Kanazashi – Keyboards/Vocals
- MiMi Kawakami – Drums/Vocals
- Rina Hoshino – Bass/Vocals
Neko, influenced by his eight years in New York City during the 1980s and 2010s, attended around 500 live concerts and shows. Inspired by the creative and genre-blending music he experienced, Neko aimed to produce a powerful groove band that transcends generations, genders, and genres.
TGJ’s Journey: In February 2020, TGJ performed at notable New York jazz clubs such as the Bitter End, Shrine, Sugar Bar, Groove, and Café Wha? They played almost every night, thanks to an invitation from renowned producer Ray Angry. Since then, they have toured extensively across Japan, Taiwan (Sound Wave Festival), Singapore (Sentosa Music Festival’s “Jazz by the Cove”), Australia, and Las Vegas (June 2024).
Achievements: TGJ has released 68 videos on YouTube, featuring a mix of originals and covers. Their original track, “Funk No. 1,” has over 17 million views, while their cover of Tower of Power’s “What is Hip” has over 3 million views. Their single “Hot Summer” ranked No. 1 in the R&B/Soul category on iTunes (Turkey), and their EP “Tokyo Groove” reached No. 8 in R&B/Soul on iTunes (Japan). The band’s third EP, released in January 2024, with a dance music concept, reached No. 2 in Japan and Germany on the iTunes R&B/Soul chart.
TGJ will captivate you with their smooth jazz music and charm!
