“Heart and soul has audience enthralled.” – Sydney Morning Herald.
This group brings together some of Australia’s finest jazz musicians—Chris Cody, Sandy Evans, Lloyd Swanton, and Peter Farrar—in an exciting new musical exploration of freedom within individual and collective roles through original compositions and improvisation.
Sandy Evans, Lloyd Swanton, and Chris Cody have shared the stage for many years, with Cody and Swanton collaborating on several acclaimed albums, including Oasis for Naxos Jazz and Cody’s most recent releases, Astrolabe and The Outsider. Joining them is Peter Farrar, one of Australia’s foremost jazz saxophonists, renowned for his rich tone, dazzling technique, and inventive improvisation.
Cody’s compositions draw from a wide range of influences shaped by his life and experiences. Having spent 22 years in Paris working with musicians from across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, he infuses his work with diverse sounds and textures. In this collaboration, he continues to develop his leadership and compositional voice, crafting new pieces that seamlessly blend with free improvisation.
Beautifully recorded by Tim Whitten and mastered by Michael Lynch, the album is complemented by stunning artwork from Maya Cody and design by Tim Kliendienst—a testament to both musical and visual artistry.
