Coltrane Project

The Coltrane Project began as a tribute concert in 1997 to commemorate the 30th anniversary Coltrane’s death. The idea was to draw inspiration from the style and technique of the Coltrane Quartet, and to play some fantastic repertoire that doesn’t get aired very often. It was a one off concert, but its success led to the Coltrane Project becoming a popular fixture in Sydney’s jazz scene. As they continued playing, members of the group drew on a different aspect of Coltrane’s work for each concert, featuring exciting and fresh perspectives on some seminal material.

Led by saxophonist/composer Paul Cutlan, the Coltrane Project welcomes the mercurial Andrew Robson back to the band on alto sax, along with Alister Spence piano, Lloyd Swanton bass and Toby Hall drum, in a program continuing their exploration the Giant Steps period through to the modality of the album Impressions.

Don’t miss the opportunity to hear this unique concert featuring some of Sydney’s elite jazz musicians paying homage to the extraordinary vision of a giant of the tenor saxophone.
