For their first gigs of 2019, Brady//Donkin//Phipps and Broadland Trio will be coming together for a night of longing melodies, strewn throughout shifting ensemble textures. Having each performed in some of Sydney’s premiere venues for new improvised music, each group will be debuting at the Foundry in a double bill of trio music. Bringing together the combined energy of indie rock, folk musics, and jazz, these groups will each present a set of original compositions and arrangements.
Formed in 2016, Brady//Donkin//Phipps explore the air that exists between 10 strings and a set of drums. Allowing each of their voices to weave in and out of the fore in their performances, they are bound by melodies that hang above a deep groove. Drawing on a background in indie rock, free improvisation, and modern jazz, this trio’s playing finds a voice that is above all sincere, personal, and in the moment.
