Foundry616 is thrilled to welcome back the Chicago-born jazz musician Vincent Gardner, winner of the 2014 DOWNBEAT “Rising Star” Critic’s Poll for Trombone and Male Vocalist) for two very special nights at the club, as he is joined by outstanding Canadian-Caribbean-born, New York based vocalist Belinda Munro.
As a bandleader, Vincent Gardner has released several acclaimed albums, performs with his own groups and is the lead trombonist for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (which also features Wynton Marsalis). Gardner also performs often with his brother, trumpeter Derrick Gardner and his ensemble, The Jazz Prophets.
Being born into a musical family in which both his father, Burgess Gardner, a trumpeter who has played with many groups including Ray Charles, Count Basie, and Horace Silver, and his mother, a pianist and choir director, are both music educators, Gardner was surrounded by music at an early age, playing jazz since he was a teenager.
After gaining his Jazz Trombone Performance degree and moving to New York to pursue his musical career, he performed with several notable ensembles and musicians, including The Count Basie Orchestra, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Illinois Jacquet, The Saturday Night Live Band, Matchbox 20, Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, and Frank Foster. He toured internationally with Grammy-award winning Lauryn Hill until 2000, joining The Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis that same year, a band with which he continues to perform.
Over the course of his affiliation with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, he has contributed many arrangements and commissioned works for various performances of that ensemble. In 2013 Vincent Gardner was appointed Director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra, and actively engages in working with young musicians internationally as part of that initiative.
Belinda Munro is a multi-talented singer, songwriter, actress, model, and motivational speaker who ignites the unspoken with her grace and dynamic presence. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, to Grenadian parents, Belinda takes great pride in her Canadian-Caribbean heritage.
Since her first solo performance in church at the tender age of 4, Belinda has built an international following. A versatile songstress with a deeply rich voice, Belinda has shared stages with international artists such as Luciano Pavarotti, Celine Dion, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Kelly Price, and Mary J. Blige, to name a few.
Belinda has performed at various venues in New York, including the Village Underground and The Blue Note and has dazzled the crowds across Europe as a Featured singer in “For Better Times” , “Happiness”, “Say Yes” and “The Power of Soul” European Tours with the HARLEM GOSPEL SINGERS. Her vocals, songwriting ability, her passion and grace are incomparable.
