23 May Tuesday – Young Women’s Jazz Orchestra
Tuesday 23 May, 7.30pm
The Young Women’s Jazz Orchestra (YWJO) made it’s exciting Foundry616 debut in December to an enthusiastic full house. This Autumn, the dynamic 15-piece jazz orchestra returns to the stage once again, full of talented 15-21 year old musicians.
An initiative formed in 2016 by Sirens Big Band and SIMA and directed by trumpeter and composer Ellen Kirkwood, this vibrant young group follows on from SIMA’s Young Women’s Jazz Workshops as a pathway for young women pursuing jazz and improvised music at professional level. Their unique repertoire features music by Australian composers such as Jenna Cave, Sally Greenaway and Nick Mulder.
Come and hear the stars of tomorrow play with passion at Foundry616!
