16 March Thursday – Yasmin & Fanous
Thursday 16 March 2017, 8.30pm
Led by Sudanese singer/song-writer Yasmin Ibrahim, Fanous is a stunning celebration of African music, blending traditional songs and improvisations with modern styles, including reggae, afro-jazz and kwassa kwassa.
Featuring experienced Australian and African musicians playing piano/keyboard, bass, guitar, drums and vocal, the music is a combination of strong, exciting African rhythms and melodies with a beautiful western flavour, blending together in rich harmonic tones. Now in its 12th year, and with a successful CD of their original music, “Wana lafi”, to their credit, the group has performed widely at major venues, festivals and events, though hearing them in an intimate club setting is a thrilling experience.
Yasmin is a charming and beautiful singer who captivates the hearts of any audience. Her music entrances audiences of all ages and nationalities with its warmth, depth and beauty. Listeners who have never heard Sudanese music before crowd the dance floor at her concerts, entranced by the hypnotic combination of gorgeous melody, soaring voice, and irresistible rhythm.
