Product Description

A regular feature on the Foundry616 program of big bands, The Sydney Jazz Orchestra is the embodiment of cool with a trademark of precision and balance. A performance by the Sydney Jazz Orchestra led by saxophonist/composer/arranger Tim Oram  will raise the temperature  on a cold winter  night.  The band moves easily from delicate , to lyrical to powerful assertiveness – muscular even, in its delivery of challenging and creative charts.

Tonight, come and hear wonderful ensemble playing, great solos, and exciting arrangements in a repertoire that just keeps the energy and vibe happening, with a rich collection of great tunes from renowned writers – including Don Grolnick, John Williams, Stevie Wonder and Chris Walden,  amongst others –will  please the ears of fans of this great 17 piece ensemble.

The repertoire will also feature some of  Tim’s Oram’s  fabulous arrangements. Tim’s creativity  in reconceptualising well known pieces with new dynamics and sounds underscores his ability as a highly skilled arranger for the big band genre. Mood changes from funk to swing, groove and Latin are all there in the collective and finely honed musicianship of the cream of Sydney’s jazz players. And as in past performances there’ll be fine individual soloing together with first class full ensemble and section playing.

If you need your big band fix, then this is it! Come and enjoy a night packed with music that has palpable energy when the Sydney Jazz Orchestra returns to Foundry616 for their third show this year.
Not to be missed!

“The Sydney Jazz Orchestra ranks amongst the finest large jazz ensembles anywhere. Guided by the leadership and writing skills of Tim Oram, the SJO presents artistically and emotionally charged music that resonates with audiences. “
Jeff Jarvis, Director Jazz Studies – University of California Long Beach

“Tim Oram’s impressive arrangements maintain a modern big band feel without straying into ‘out there’ territory, and employ interesting section playing. A range of material is ably delivered with more than a few notable solos”.
