A regular feature on the Foundry616 program of big bands, The Sydney Jazz Orchestra is the embodiment of cool with a trademark of precision and balance. A performance by the Sydney Jazz Orchestra led by saxophonist/composer/arranger Tim Oram will raise the temperature on a cold winter night. The band moves easily from delicate , to lyrical to powerful assertiveness – muscular even, in its delivery of challenging and creative charts.
Tonight, come and hear wonderful ensemble playing, great solos, and exciting arrangements in a repertoire that just keeps the energy and vibe happening, with a rich collection of great tunes from renowned writers – including Don Grolnick, John Williams, Stevie Wonder and Chris Walden, amongst others –will please the ears of fans of this great 17 piece ensemble.
The repertoire will also feature some of Tim’s Oram’s fabulous arrangements. Tim’s creativity in reconceptualising well known pieces with new dynamics and sounds underscores his ability as a highly skilled arranger for the big band genre. Mood changes from funk to swing, groove and Latin are all there in the collective and finely honed musicianship of the cream of Sydney’s jazz players. And as in past performances there’ll be fine individual soloing together with first class full ensemble and section playing.
