The Harry Sutherland Trio returns to Foundry 616 to present a night of original material as well as pieces by Bernie McGann, John Taylor, Roger Frampton and others.
Harry Sutherland is one of Australia’s most promising jazz pianists, having studied in both Australia and abroad including Kevin Hunt, John Harkins, Matt McMahon and John Taylor. He has played with some of the most well respected figures in Australian jazz including Geoff Bull, Paul Furniss, Dale Barlow, James Greening, Carl Morgan, Warwick Alder, Ben Hauptmann and Elana Stone.
Since relocating from Auckland to Sydney in late 2011, double bassist Tom Botting has quickly forged a path into the Australian jazz scene. His impressive abilities as a sideman and bassist have led to performances with jazz luminaries as diverse as James Muller,
Roger Manins, Dale Barlow, Walter Smith III, Vince Jones, Jamie Oehlers, and The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra. Tom placed third in the 2015 National Jazz Awards at Wangaratta Jazz Festival and is currently a PhD candidate at the Sydney Conservatorium
James Waples is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, recently completing his Masters. At the age of 34, James has worked with many of the country’s top musicians such as Mike Nock, Vince Jones, Chris Abrahams, Bernie McGann and international acts such George Garzone, Bob Mintzer, Joe Lovano, Tony Malaby and has toured internationally with artists such as Sadao Watanabe and Terumasa Hino. He was also a finalist in the 2005/2011 Wangaratta National Jazz drum competition.
